Yes, I’m back again. After a long absence. Still complaining that I’m behind on writing. Sick of this yet?
On the plus side, I’ve actually been doing some work at work lately. That has certainly helped the days go by a little more quickly. Of course, that means I’m behind on e-mails and such. I think it’s a fair trade, though.
Surprisingly, there’s not much to report. We’ve been cleaning and painting and packing to get our place on the market. The final bits of paperwork should be done in the next couple of days, and it should be for sale by mid-week. This is great news, as we had tentatively planned to be on the market by July 1. That was mostly to give ourselves a deadline to stay motivated, but I think we’re going to hit within 3 weeks of that, which ain’t bad.
Then, there’s just the small matter of a mortgage before we can start shopping in earnest. That paperwork will start rolling on Tuesday, so we could easily be pre-approved by the 1st. Again, not bad, especially considering our original plan was to buy a place in the Spring of 2007.
I have to admit, it’s a little scary getting ready to drop this much cash. In the end, our financial situation should be much better, but the next couple of months will be tight as we scrape together down payments and closing costs and fees and inspections and who knows what else. Then there’s the race against rising interest rates….
On a happier note, the Zappa Plays Zappa tour is coming to town! That’s right, Dweezil & Company are bringing their show to the Orpheum in October. It was a little up in the air, as it was hard to find definite show dates, but now it’s official. It’s a Ticketmaster event, which means $728 in bendover fees, but what choice is there? No one seems able to take down that particular monopoly. On the plus side, it’s at a real venue, so the sound should be good. (Can you imagine trying to listen to Zappa music at Target Center? Ick.)
Well, I think I’ll wrap it up there for now. Free lunch is being served, and we’re saving for a down payment. You do the math.
